Don't like the PG&E SmartMeters? Just say NO!

President of the California Public Utilities Commission, Michael Peevey, will ask PG&E to develop a proposal to allow customers to opt-out of having the new SmartMeters.

At a meeting on March 10, 2011, the CPUC heard testimony from people concerned about the exposure to radio frequencies and radiation from the wireless electricity and gas meters. While Pacific Gas & Electric claims the exposure is no more than a normal cell phone, people have been quite vociferous in their opposition.

There have been numerous complaints about the accuracy of the meters already. The investigation by the CPUC concluded that the meters were accurate and that any inaccuracies represented only a very tiny fraction of households. Nontheless, the issue of the safey to the meters has been extremely worrisome for many people.

The procedure to tell PG&E to either remove the meter or not have it installed (many of already been installed) still needs to be finalized, and we'll inform people when that happens.

As an informal poll, we'd like to hear from you and get your opinion. Are you concerned about radiation and radio waves from the SmartMeters? Do you feel the new SmartMeters are accurate in their readings?
